Cheap Easter days out

Yes! Easter is upon us; that wonderful time of the year when we emerge from winter hibernation to get out, enjoy the spring sunshine and stuff ourselves with endless chocolate. But in midst of all these ‘egg-citing’ plans, what do you do when you’re broke?

Well some might say there’s only so much you can do on a tight budget? But believe it or not, cheap days out actually do exist. With the help of our good friend Google, you’ll be amazed to see what the UK has to offer during this time of year.

Here’s our top pick of outings you can enjoy with family and friends this Easter – without breaking the bank:

Enjoy an egg hunt

Of course, you can organise your own Easter Egg Hunt at home, but if you’re looking for something a bit more eggs-travagant then there are loads of cheap (and often) free community events. If you live in the south of England, then why not step out and join us at Avon Tyrell for a fun filled Easter Egg Hunt right in the heart of the New Forest. You’ll be set challenges with hidden clues across stunning locations for you and your family to enjoy.

Watch a spectacular open air performance

On Good Friday, over 100 performers bring their spectacular moving portrayal of the final days of Jesus to the centre of London. The Passion of Jesus is a 90-minute production, completely free of charge. Performances are at 12 noon and 3.15pm, with visibility maximised through the addition of large screens.

Power UP at the Science Museum

Back by popular demand for a third year, Power UP features 180 playable consoles spanning 40 years of gaming history, from nostalgia-inducing classics like Pong and Pac-Man through Mario to Minecraft. Game on! Pit your friends against you in multiplayer showdowns, introduce your parents to your own childhood favourites and test out some of the latest virtual reality experiences at this ultimate gaming extravaganza.

Visit an Easter country show

Thames Country Fair, Oxfordshire’s leading country show, is on Easter Sunday and Monday and makes a fun-filled family day out. Enjoy the thrills and spills of horseboarding (a great spectator sport as competitors ride a wheeled surfboard dragged by a horse and rider), amazing dog displays and ferret racing and have a go at falconry, fly fishing and other country pursuits.

Easter egg making classes

Ever wondered how Easter eggs get made into the perfect shape? Why not step into a chocolatier’s kitchen to make your own unique egg, combining an array of classic chocolate flavours and edible decorations? Here’s one on Groupon if you’re struggling to find discount deals.
