Make it handmade this Mother’s Day

It’s okay to admit you’ve left Mother’s Day a bit late this year (just like last year and the year before!) but don’t fear. You can still make your Mum feel like the most important woman in the world without having to spend a penny, or even leave the house! Here are our top tips:

Reduce, reuse, and recycle

Trying to make something yourself but online tutorials keep suggesting you reach for something you don’t have? It can be annoying to see something great that you can’t replicate. Rather than patterned paper, you could cut bits off old cards to create nice designs. You could also try using these random items, like lint rollers or potatoes to make DIY stamps.

Simple can still be great

We’re not all DIY experts when we’ve got three hours to spare and it can be tempting to try something ambitious. Log off Pinterest and try this 30 minute wall art or the short crafts in this video. Just make sure you don’t ruin your debit card… you might need it!

The oven waits for you

Dig out your apron and get cooking. Channels like My Virgin Kitchen or those at Sorted Food have got a number of great tutorials for quick recipes you can complete.

While you’re at the supermarket grabbing ingredients, you could get some great small and cheap gifts to add some flair too. Why not add a simple bow to a bottle of bubble bath or to a bottle of wine?

Know that just a card is okay

A handmade card could go a long way to showing your Mum you’re thankful she’s there. These great designs make the most of items you have readily available.

You can also focus on replicating some excellent typography focussed designs – even if you don’t have a printer. Check out what the shops are selling online so you can get some ideas.

Your time is valuable too!

If all else fails and your cupboards and draws are empty of things you can recycle, there’s still hope. Open up Netflix, find your Mum’s favourite film and watch it with her. Can’t find the time on the day? Make plans for the future so she knows you’re thinking of her.

If your craft fails…

We’re not all wizards with a pair of scissors and sometimes DIYs don’t turn out the way we planned them. There might still be time to order online if you get next day delivery (just make sure you follow our tips to stay safe!) or to dash to the shops for a back-up.

If you’re struggling with funds, you can also use it as a chance to review your budget by following our budget-making advice or make some quick cash so you’ve got the money to spend.

Whatever you do, make sure you share your tips with us on Facebook Instagram and Twitter. Good luck crafting!
